Prayer

Many of us pray one way or the other, while some are content with their prayer pattern, however many are left frustrated with theirs for one reason or the other.

While this may shock you, the truth is that prayer is not an act, nor skill, but communication with our Heavenly Father. You will be pleased to know that no one believer prayer takes precedence over the other. The way was made for every believer to access the throne of Grace when the curtain of the temple broke at the death of Jesus on the cross.
Our prayer to Him are like sweet smelling aroma and He’s more than capable to handle any and everything brought before Him. Ps 142:2, Eph 3:20-21

Having said this, let’s take a look at the manuscript of Jesus teaching on Prayer to His disciples in Matt 6.

However, before He thought them how to pray He showed and taught them what prayer is not from v5-8. I also find it intriguing that Jesus gave an indication that it’s only believers that pray. So this blog set believers prayer apart from others.

He particularly mentioned the hypocrites who in the real sense are not what they portray to be. They are actors, hence they are more interested in their self image rather than pleasing God or getting through to God. What interest them is what people think of them.

They conjure and use impressive vocabulary to impress people around them, basically are showing off to be what they are not. Sadly for them God is not impressed, if anything He detest it.

God always desired that we fellowship with Him intimately, hence why He willingly gave up His Son to die for us.

The message translation rendered this thought really well reading from v. 7-13 “……. The world is full of so-called prayer warriors who are prayer-ignorant. They’re full of formulas and programs and advice, peddling techniques for getting what you want from God. Don’t fall for that nonsense. This is your Father you are dealing with, and he knows better than you what you need

Easter Reflection-II

Featured

cross-sunset-sunrise-hill-70847.jpeg

If you were to ask many people on the streets in Britain today what Easter meant to them, many would say “it’s time to gather with family and share chocolate eggs and eat hot cross Burn with fish, and of course the long weekend!

Reminding ourselves of the message of the cross at this season is important to know that Jesus did not go through all He did so that He becomes our ATM or Father Christmas it is because ……. We’re all like sheep who’ve wandered off and gotten lost. We’ve all done our own thing, gone our own way. And God has piled all our sins, everything we’ve done wrong  on him, on him Isa 53:6 {MsgT}

By no means enjoy your time with your family and all the pleasantries that come with the Easter break, however much more try and spend some time and reflect on the cross, asking yourself why what was accomplished for me?  and don’t forget to show Him your appreciation with the sacrifice of praises from your lips. Ps 117:17

Many of us wear the cross as a beautiful fashion statement, but in reality, the experience on the cross was far grosser than that. Prophet Isaiah gave us a graphic illustration of Jesus experience on the cross in the 53rd chapter. Take a look and ponder, rendered in the message translation as …….. “there was nothing attractive about him, nothing to cause us to take a second look. He was looked down on and passed over, a man who suffered, who knew pain first hand. One look at him and people turned away. We looked down on him, thought he was scum. But the fact is, it was our pains he carried— our disfigurements, all the things wrong with us. We thought he brought it on himself, that God was punishing him for his own failures. But it was our sins that did that to him, that ripped and tore and crushed him—our sins! He took the punishment, and that made us whole. Through his bruises, we get healed. We’re all like sheep who’ve wandered off and gotten lost. We’ve all done our own thing, gone our own way. And God has piled all our sins, everything we’ve done wrong  on him, on him

Think about this, though He didn’t deserve any of these for me and your sake He went through these so that we may have fellowship again with our Heavenly Father restoring back to us all the covenant benefit of a son. John put it this way in John1:12-13{MsgT} …… whoever did want him, who believed he was who he claimed and would do what he said, He made to be their true selves, their child-of-God selves. These are the God-begotten, not blood-begotten not flesh-begotten ………..

Prayer

Oh, God, here I am, your servant, your faithful servant: set me free for your service! I’m ready to offer the thanksgiving sacrifice and pray in the name of God.

Looking up to the Cross

Featured

pexels-photo-208315.jpegI had the privilege of ministering in an Anglican church in one of the services designated for the “Holy week” the week leading to Easter.

Though of Anglican background myself it was kind of strange and exciting experience. On one breath it brought back the nostalgia of my upbringing as an Anglican in Nigeria, on the other hand it made me reflect on the traditions of the church we seem to have done away with within the Pentecostal or evangelical circles.

Later on the evening I visited my Father who himself is an Anglican, having shared my experience he asked me why the Pentecostals don’t follow the church calendar as the orthodox churches.

My swift response was that because we live it out every day, as you might have guessed, he asked what does that mean? You might be asking the same question, of which am glad you did.

The truth behind the Easter service or “Holy Week” is to re-focus everyone’s to the cross and the resurrection, in theory this should be the position and daily experience of every believer.

However In reality we are distracted from looking up to Jesus the author and finisher of our faith Heb 12:2 because we are busy living life as we want, rather than as God what us to.

Some have argued that Easter is not in the Bible and Passover was the Law and Jesus has set us free from the demands of the law. All true, however setting a period as such aside call it Easter, or whatever definitely will not harm us but enhance our relationship with our Lord, and remind us of all that was accomplished for us on the cross.

All said and done let me encourage you this week to spend time alone reflecting on the cross focusing on the generosity of God, who in spite of our sin thought it fit to give us His son to atone for our sin.

Let me bring your attention to the Israelites when they grumbled against God and against Moses (Numbers 21:4–5). Despite all that God had done for them, they were not satisfied and rebelled against him. Their rebellion could not go unchecked, and so God initially sent judgment on the people (v.6). God’s ultimate plan though was to redeem and bless his people, restoring their relationship with him.

They confessed their sin and ‘the Lord said to Moses, “Make a snake and put it up on a pole; anyone who is bitten can look at it and live.” So Moses made a bronze snake and put it up on a pole. Then when anyone was bitten by a snake and looked at the bronze snake, they lived’ (vv.8–9).

Speaking of this incident in the desert Jesus said, ‘Just as Moses lifted up the snake in the wilderness, so the Son of Man must be lifted up, that everyone who believes may have eternal life in him’ (John 3:14–15). Jesus is referring, of course, to his death on the cross (12:32–33).

God, in his generosity, provides the sacrifice that enables you to know forgiveness. The uplifted snake in Moses’ day brought physical life to those who looked in faith. The uplifted crucified Christ brings eternal life to anyone who looks in faith and believes in him. You cannot earn forgiveness. Eternal life is a free gift, but you still have to choose to accept that gift. Believing is an act of the will that accepts the free gift of God (3:15).

Prayer

May the reality of all that Jesus accomplished on the cross  be a real and personal experience for you in Jesus name.

God is happy to hear from you

Prayer exist in one form or the other in every culture and religion but nothing compares to praying to Yahweh, who is near and actually listens to us.

Effective prayer is based on personal relationship with God, as Jesus showed His disciples the importance of personal relationship with the Father in prayer.

These two statements are clear indication of the importance of the subject matte

….. when you pray, go into your most private room, close the door and pray to your Father who is in secret, and your Father who sees [what is done] in secret will reward you Matt 6:6 {Amp}

Pray, then, in this way: Our Father, who is in heaven, Hallowed be Your name. V.9

The first statement indicates or suggest of intimate communication between a father and his child, while the other reveal the type ofpexels-photo-213117.jpeg relationship that we have with God despite being in heaven He’s still very much our Father.

King Solomon described the prayer of the righteous as something that delights God, or better put, makes Him happy. “….. the prayer of the upright is His delight” Prov 15:8b

Further down from this verse the king made a contrast between the prayer of the righteous and the activity of the wicked stating that “The Lord is far from the wicked [and distances Himself from them], But He hears the prayer of the [consistently] righteous [that is, those with spiritual integrity and moral courage]” Prov 15:29

In Rev 5:8 the prayer of the righteous is described to be like golden bowls fully of incense that God enjoys to smell.

In conclusion let me encourage you to develop the habit of communicating with your heavenly Father, if anything He delights to hear you. Remember you don’t need any special vocabulary or ceremony to approach Him, just come as you are.

I will be continuing tomorrow when we look at prayer as the tool that help us enforce the kingdom of God on earth.

4 Reasons To Give Thanks to God

praise2

  1. Giving thanks reminds us that everything we have is a gift from Him.
Without gratefulness, we will become arrogant and self-centred. Because we think that, what we have achieved was attained through own effort alone. However, being  thankful keeps our hearts in right relationship to the Giver of all good gifts. Every good gift and every perfect gift is from above, coming down from the Father of lights, with whom there is no variation or shadow due to change James 1:17
  2. Scriptures commands us to gives thanks.
Praise the Lord! Oh, give thanks to the Lord, for he is good for his steadfast love endures forever! Ps 106:1; 1 Thess 5:18 give thanks in all circumstances; for this is the will of God in Christ Jesus for you.
  3. Give Him your Sacrifice of Praise, even in Tough times.
We can have thankful hearts toward God even when life don’t seem to be going our way. That is what the Bible calls a “sacrifice of praise” By him therefore let us offer the sacrifice of praise to God continually, that is, the fruit of our lips giving thanks to his name Hebrews 13:15
  4. Giving thanks to God Keeps our hearts in the right place.
Giving thanks to God keeps our hearts in right relationship with Him and saves us from a host of harmful emotions and attitudes that will rob us of the peace God wants us to experience. do not be anxious about anything, but in everything by prayer and supplication with thanksgiving let your requests be made known to God. And the peace of God, which surpasses all understanding, will guard your hearts and your minds in Christ Jesus Philippians 4:6–7

Can one really afford to forgive without forgetting?

So also my heavenly Father will do to every one of you, if you do not forgive your brother from your heart.Matthew 18:35 ESV https://bible.com/bible/59/mat.18.35.ESVi

I have had this conversation with many people on several occasions, and I am not ashamed to say that most of the time, I have lost the argument.

But I think the reason we debate this subject of forgiveness, particularly in circumstances that are very painful and close to our heart is because we don’t really realise that forgiveness is an “act of will” it something you decide to do out of obedience and reverence for God. Take a look at the text again and take a closer look at what it says …… “If you do not …..” meaning the responsibility lies with us.

In my opinion, we debate this truth because …

1. We dont realise it is our responsibility. Hence, we would rather pray about it than do it.

2. We don’t realise that we are disobeying God, who called us to have mercy just as He had mercy on us. Lk 6:36

You may be reading this and cringing, saying …. this guy don’t really understand what I am going through. Otherwise, he won’t suggest that I forgive. Let me encourage you to go ahead in the name of Jesus to forgive and release that person from your heart.

Conclusion

You do more yourself more harm than good when you harbour unforgiveness because (1) The person is probably getting on with life without noticing you. (2) Moreover, if you don’t forgive your Heavenly Father will not forgive you (Matt 6:15)

This week

God puts us in places to do His plans

Don’t take attacks personally

Responding to attacks makes us lose our focus on the enemy. Despite the attack on Mordecai he did not respond or attack Haman.

Apostle James encouraged the church to count it all Joy when we are faced with trials because it is our confidence in God that the enemy is trying.

The attack is not about you, but what you carry

Haman issued a decree to exterminate not just Mordecai but all the Jew in the Land. Which suggest that his problem with Mordecai was more than a personality clash but what defines him, which is the hand of God upon Him and the Jew race.

How sensitive are you to what is going on around you?

Despite the cry and the pain of the jew people on the street, Esther was shielded from the pain, because of her position and location in the palace.

Consequently, she did not appreciate the scale of the problem. Her immediate attention was drawn to her uncles need, however, he rejected the gesture because he did not want to lose sight of the real issue at hand.

A Christian that is not ready to die is not ready to live.

Mordecai risked his life protesting wearing sackcloth and mourning before the king’s palace and Esther risked approaching the King even though she was not invited to go into the inner court.

There approach though deadly paid off because if they had not acted against the decree, the Jew race would have been exterminated.

Do you know why you are where you are?.

Esther had a very valid excuse not to act following tradition and custom, however, she was challenged by Mordecai to understand that God placed in the Palace for a time such as this.

You can’t fight Satan in your strength

Esther recognises the weight of the battle and she called out for a Fast.

Why Fast?

  • It looses the bound of wickedness
  • It removes heavy burdens
  • It sets the opressed free
  • Breaks every yoke.

Prayer: Dear Heavenly Father, Contend, O LORD, with those who contend with me; Fight against those who fight against me.

I love your law and I meditate on it all day long. Your commands are always with me and am wiser than my enemies. I have more insight than all my teachers because I meditate on your statutes. I have more understanding than the elders because I obey your precepts.

I have kept my feet from every evil path so that I might obey your word. I have not departed from your laws, because You have taught me.

How sweet are your words to my taste, sweeter than honey to my mouth! I gain understanding from your precepts; therefore, I hate every wrong path. Your word is a lamp for my feet, a light on my path.

davThis post is  based on an allegory were we Jesus cleared the temple of all what should not be there. Being the Temple of God ourselves we learnt how the devil and his demons defiles us, hindering us from offering our best to God.
Demons being disembodied spirits were cast out of heaven, and are illegal who need bodies to operate on earth. Characteristically they are wicked spirits, that torments, defile and dishonour God.
They are compelling spirits, rendering its host the inability to control events or actions. You cannot pray them out, because we’ve been given the authority to cast them out in Jesus name.
Because they are intrusive spirit who don’t require your permission to take residency, they have to be forced out.

………. He found in the temple those who sold oxen and sheep and doves, and the money changers doing business. When He had made a whip of cords, He drove them all out of the temple, with the sheep and the oxen, and poured out the changers’ money and overturned the tables

Everyone need a formal introduction

The best thing that ever happen to me was when I meet with Jesus at the age of 19. Despite being born and raised in with a Christian heritage.

I did all the right things and I desperately wanted to know more of God, so I began to pray more, read my bible more. Unfortunately, the more I did this stuff the more I got frustrated because I really felt God was either very far away and unreachable or He does not exist.

As someone who goes to church and celebrates Easter, I knew Jesus came and died for the sin of mankind. But this was just head knowledge without a personal conviction of the real purpose Jesus endured the shame and humiliation of this cruel death so that I maybe reconciled back to His Father and our God.

You may have been in church all your life and follow adherently all the religious sacraments, but do you know that except you acknowledge that you are a sinner and ask for forgiveness, and that Jesus come into your life as Lord and saviour you have no hope?

Lets look at a few scriptures

22 We are made right with God by placing our faith in Jesus Christ. And this is true for everyone who believes, no matter who we are.

23 For everyone has sinned; we all fall short of God’s glorious standard.

24 Yet God, in his grace, freely makes us right in his sight. He did this through Christ Jesus when he freed us from the penalty for our sins.

25 For God presented Jesus as the sacrifice for sin. People are made right with God when they believe that Jesus sacrificed his life, shedding his blood ……… [Rom 3:22-25]

So what makes us right before God is not the religious activities or our heritage, but one that acknowledges there sin and receive the testimony of Christ that He’s God’s Son who shed His blood for us for the remission of our sin.

Final thought

In John 1:35-49, John introduce Jesus to His disciples despite knowing about Him, when they saw Him they didn’t recognise Him, until John made a formal introduction of Jesus ““Look! There is the Lamb of God!”

There after they followed Him and went about in their neighbourhoods introducing and bringing their friends and neighbours to come meet with the Messiah.

Apostle Paul put it this way in Rom 10:13-14 For Everyone who calls on the name of the Lord will be saved.”

14 But how can they call on him to save them unless they believe in him? And how can they believe in him if they have never heard about him? And how can they hear about him unless someone tells them?

Let me encourage you to go out there and introduce your friends and neighbour to Jesus, you are the Andrews and God has place the Peter’s and Phillips in your life, awaiting your obedience to your Lord and master for there chance and opportunity meet with the Lord.

Please like, share and I will be pleased to respond to your comments, prayer or counsel request. I look forward to hearing from you. Every blessing.

The Word

job print on book

I am sure that many of you would have heard the expression “words are cheap” the implication of this expression is that words are just words not to be taken seriously.

Consequently, many who believe in God don’t take His word seriously and are easily allowed to be distracted from reading, studying or meditating on it. It is no wonder we are often distracted from the word of God because our life depends upon it. A survey was carried out in America among bible believing church goers, it revealed that over 45% don’t read the bible regularly, unfortunately this was not any better in Britain where over 65% of those who claim to be part of church of England never read the bible.

Friends, let me challenge you to have a renewed perspective on the word of God, that is the Bible.

You may not realise it but in truth, the written word of God {logos}{Grk} is the expression of God Himself manifested in flesh in the person of Jesus Christ. In the beginning was the Word, and the Word was with God, and the Word was God. He was in the beginning with God. All things were made through him, and without him was not any thing made that was made. John 1:1-3

The implication of these statements are that

a. The Word pre dates our existence and everything on earth

b. Was with God, and cannot be separated from Him.

c. Is the expression of God the Father in flesh in the Person of Jesus Christ – John 1:11;14

d. The word is the creative force of God.

In other to live life to the fullness of God’s design you must understand how important the word of God is. When God gave Joshua the mandate to take over the leading of the Israelites to the promised land after the death of Moses. He was commended to take the word of God seriously because his success depends on it Joshua 1:8.

The Psalmist was a little bit more graphic about the impact of taking the word of God seriously using an allegory of a tree planted by the side of river always bearing fruit in it’s season. Ps 1:2-3

Friends, may I suggest to you that you should allow the word of God to shape your perspective of life.
Embracing what God does for you is the best thing you can do for him. Don’t become so well-adjusted to your culture that you fit into it without even thinking. Instead, fix your attention on God. You’ll be changed from the inside out. Readily recognize what he wants from you, and quickly respond to it. Unlike the culture around you, always dragging you down to its level of immaturity, God brings the best out of you, develops well-formed maturity in you. Rom 12:2-3

The previous verse suggest that to accomplish this, some level of scarifies will be required on your part ……. therefore, brothers, by the mercies of God, ……. present your bodies as a living sacrifice, holy and acceptable to God, which is your spiritual worship. Rom 12:1

In conclusion, start from where you are take the little steps by reading, meditate or ponder on a few verses daily and praying about what you read.

Don’t just gloss over it, if it challenges your mindset or character don’t excuse it, ask God for strength to apply the word to your life.

I pray that you will receive grace to hunger for the word of God, and diligently follow after Him in spirit and in truth in Jesus name.

Key component for effective prayer

key compo

Matthew 6:12

……. forgive us our sins, just as we have forgiven those who have sinned against us.

This is one of the most fundamental requirement to our faith. Think about it, the only reason we have a relationship with God is because He forgave us our sins.

Though many struggle with forgiveness but it is possible to live it out if you allow God.

Very often we people ask wonder if it is or indeed necessary to forget to truly forgive.

It is often argued contrary to God’s word that as human it is impossible to forget.

The problem with that line of thought is that, such a person does not realise that forgiveness as they say is “divine” because of the fallen nature of man demand is made on the flesh to be comfortable, hence make forgiveness very difficult.

However, if we remember that we have been bought with a price and no longer our own, and we yield to the Spirit of God rather than the flesh by simply choosing to obey the word of God despite the pain. Like Paul we will discover that we can do all things trough Christ Jesus who gives us strength.

Why is it necessary to forget?

Imagine that God remembers every sin that we’ve ever commited and He keeps a record of them, it will mean He is not who He says He His, because one of His attribute being Love does not keep the record of wrongs.

When you choose to keep the record of wrong, it means you are not walking in love and incapable of moving on from the wrong that was done to you.

Let me paint a picture for you of someone who borrowed some money from you, but did not pay back.

You went through the emotions of disappointment and anger but decided to forget about it all but with the mindset that you’ve forgiven the person. The real test is what happened when the same person comes back to you and ask for help again with promise to payback. If your decision is based on the previous experience then you never forgave despite your best effort to forget about it.

The impact of unforgiveness cannot be better put than these verses 14-15, ….. “If you forgive others the wrongs they have done to you, your Father in heaven will also forgive you. But if you do not forgive others, then your Father will not forgive the wrongs you have done”

Prayer

May the Lord heal you of your hurts and pain. Strengthen you in your inner man and grant you the grace to truly forgive and let go in Jesus name.

Prayer IV

Continue from previous post ……

Give us our daily bread – Matt 6:11

From the previous post we learnt that God did not create the earth and turn His back on it, but made to partner Him in creation and the sustenance of it. We archive this by going to Him in prayers enforcing His will on earth as He planned it in heaven.

In the same breath when Jesus outlined the pattern we should follow in prayer He implied that we should come to God with an attitude of humility.

Come with me to Prov 3:4-8 If you want favour with both God and man, and a reputation for good judgment and common sense, then trust the Lord completely; don’t ever trust yourself. 6 In everything you do, put God first, and he will direct you and crown your efforts with success. Don’t be conceited, sure of your own wisdom. Instead, trust and reverence the Lord, and turn your back on evil; when you do that, then you will be given renewed health and vitality. {Amp}

Some will argue that this is why Christians are judged weak and indecisive, surely there are things you don’t need God for! really? .

Let me ask you these questions.
– Do you want to have Favour before God and man?
– Do you want to have a reputation for good judgement and common sense?

Then trust the lord completely don’t ever take a decision without bringing it to Him in prayer asking for direction and resources.
– It goes on to say that if you want God to direct and crown your efforts with success you will have to put Him first

Now what King Solomon did not suggest is that you shouldn’t think or plan or act but acknowledge and be ready for God’s input in every details of your life.

Asking God for our daily is humbly as you can see from King Solomon’s counsel where he painted the picture of an inspired and enterprising person who know what to do but would rather not depend on their own wisdom, but instead trust and reverence the Lord.

As Apostle James reveals in James 4:6 God resist the proud but gives Grace to the humble.

In Conclusion going before God and asking for your daily need is not weakness but a position of strength and power, if you consider that HE that creates the world and everything within it is giving you audience to ask Him for every details of your life, it should really be considered a privileged position to be in.

Every blessing

To be continued ………..

Effective prayer is enforcing the kingdom of God

Praying is not manipulating God to do our bidding, rather it is an invitation of the King to influence and reign in our circumstances or in any specific situation we are praying about.

Jesus spoke in Matthew 6:10 Your kingdom come, your will be done, on earth as it is in heaven.

When we understand that every believer has authority over the earth which is delegated power by the virtue of what Jesus accomplished on the cross. Consequently we’ve been placed on earth to cooperate with heaven to see the purpose of God established.

Apostle Paul wrote in 2Co 10:4 — 6 … the weapons of our warfare are not of the flesh but have divine power to destroy strongholds. We destroy arguments and every lofty opinion raised against the knowledge of God, and take every thought captive to obey Christ, being ready to punish every disobedience, when your obedience is complete.

The last statement gives us an indication of what makes the prayer effective and sharp … when our obedience is complete. Implying that we cannot pray without knowing His will and thoughts through the knowledge of His word.

The implication of this is that you must abreast yourself with the word of God, and be ready to obey Him when He speaks.

Now some of you may disagree with me that faith is naming anything and claiming it, the only problem is that you may left deluded and disappointed at God, when your expectation is fulfilled, because God is in it.

Let us look at Apostle Paul’s example in 2 Cor 12:8-10 he had a thorn in his flesh which could be anything really, nevertheless, he prayed three times to the Lord to remove it, but God said My Grace or strength is sufficient for you. He was not disappointed that God did not heal him because he heard the voice of the Lord, he recognised it and accepted it.

In conclusion, when we pray we will be effective if we know the will of God in the matter through the revelation of His word.

So my counsel to you is to be sensitive and attentive to what He says to us in the course of our prayer.

If you put this to practice, I guarantee you, that you will not be disappointed or left dissolution about God ever again in your life.

To be continued….
